A Last Minute Plan to Thank Dad on Father’s Day

This morning my neighbor asked if we had plans for Father’s Day, and I thought, “That’s already this Sunday?!”

So if you’re like me and want to do something nice for your dad, grandpa, or husband, but [ahem] the whole gift-giving thing doesn’t come naturally to you (see my explanation of this in last month’s blog Easy DIY Mother’s Day Gift), take a breath and read on.

The solution is an easy and delicious recipe called Ice Cream Rolls*, and trust me, you don’t have to be a whiz in the kitchen to make these. They’re not healthy, but in my experience, dads, grandpas, and husbands get far more happiness out of these dandies than they get stress about the artificial preservatives and flavors they are ingesting, so it’s worth it to show them love in their language on Father’s Day.

Gather these supplies:

-A Bundt pan

-3 tubes of buttermilk biscuits

-1/2 cup white sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon

-another 1/2 cup white sugar

-1/2 cup brown sugar

-1 stick butter

-A few scoops of vanilla ice cream

Do this:

-Butter, grease, or non-stick spray the Bundt pan

-Mix together the cinnamon and sugar

-Roll each biscuit around in the cinnamon and sugar mix

-Layer all the cinnamon-and-sugared biscuits in the Bundt pan

-Mix the white and brown sugars and sprinkle over the biscuits in the pan

-Melt the butter and pour over the biscuits

-Drop spoonfuls of vanilla ice cream on top

-Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. When you take it out of the oven and are ready to serve, put a deep dish or pan on top of the Bundt pan, carefully flip, and lift off the Bundt pan. All the sugary, ice-creamy syrup is runny, so make sure the pan or dish you flip it onto has sides.

-Remember to smile and say, “Happy Father’s Day!”

*This recipe came from my grandma, whose kitchen talents I did not fully inherit, but I can manage this one 🙂
